Beaches in Israel

Israel’s Mediterranean coastline is about 195 km (121 miles) long. Of those 195 km, only 53 km of open natural coast remain. Along the coastline, ancient cities were built over the course of history (for example the ancient city of Caesarea from the Roman period), ancient ports (for example Jaffa andAcre), nature reserves were declared (for example HaBonim Beach) and neighborhoods were built, such as Bat Galim in Haifa. What’s the deal with the flags?Red flag: swimming allowed but restricted. Black flag: swimming strictly forbidden. White flag: swimming allowed along the whole beach. Purple flag: indicates lots of jellyfish.
