Remember that the seasons in the Southern Hemisphere are the reverse of those in the Northern Hemisphere (where Europe and North America are), meaning December to February is summer there. Summer is generally the wettest season in most of Argentina, except Patagonia, where summer is usually very dry. Still, you don’t need to worry about a real rainy season like in some other South American countries, such as Colombia.
When to Visit Argentina and Pay Less
You can find fantastic deals in Argentina all year round, but if you want more affordable accommodation and lower prices on tours, visit in the shoulder or low season. Anecdotally, I got a great deal on an apartment rental in Buenos Aires in May and June, but paid quite a bit more in January. As in many destinations, the longer you stay, the better the deals you can get.

When to Visit Argentina to See Iguazu Falls
Iguazu Falls are among the largest waterfalls in the world, on the border of Argentina and Brazil. If you want to avoid the crowds, go in the shoulder or off season; I went to Iguazu in June and felt it was the perfect time.
Check both the Argentine and the Brazilian holiday calendars before booking a trip to this area. Flying on a holiday weekend can be really exhausting, and costs are higher too. You’ll have to deal with long lines and huge crowds everywhere, and even taking a good photo will be really hard.
When to Visit Argentina to Ski in Patagonia
Patagonia covers the southern part of Argentina and Chile and has fantastic lakes, trails, glaciers and even penguins the further south you go. If you ever want to go to Antarctica, you’ll most likely set off from Ushuaia, Argentina, known as “the end of the world”.
The best time to ski in Patagonia is midwinter, in August. If you’re visiting Patagonia, try to book ahead; the best activities and accommodation sell out if you wait until the last minute.
When to Visit Argentina for a City Break in Buenos Aires?
The best time to visit Buenos Aires, Argentina’s capital and one of the most beautiful and interesting cities in South America, is between April and June and between September and December, the shoulder seasons, which bring advantages like fewer crowds (and prices to match) and moderate temperatures. Summer in Buenos Aires, mainly January and February, is very hot and humid.

When to Visit Argentina for Wine Tasting in Mendoza
There’s never a wrong time to go wine tasting, but there are definitely more popular times to visit Mendoza, a region known for fantastic wineries that produce some of the best Malbecs in the world. The Fiesta de la Vendimia, also known as the Grape Harvest Festival, gets going in January and February, and the main event usually takes place in early March, with concerts, tastings and tens of thousands of visitors. Of course it’s a busy time to visit, but the experience is worth braving the crowds.
Mendoza has much more than wine to offer visitors, so don’t make the mistake of thinking you can see it all on a weekend trip. Give yourself plenty of time to see the city, and consider renting a car or hiring a driver to reach the wineries, as some are up to two hours’ drive from the city center.
